Default Name Change to Mother's Maiden Name as an Adult

My question involves name change laws in the State of: Pennsylvania

adult, no liens or judgements, no felonies

I am interested in changing my surname to my mother's maiden name. There is no divorce or or other similar event involved. Is the name change likely to be granted?

From what you've told us so far, I expect so.

My main wish is to remove my family name, and I would prefer to not adopt my mother's maiden name either.
Say my name is Joe Brown, and my mother's maiden name is Green. How likely would I be granted a name of Tim Smith?

Also, given my details, how easy would it be to complete the entire process by myself, filing in forma pauperis?
An attorney would surely be helpful but I am without funds. I have not seen anywhere a complete detailing and explanation of how to fill out the forms and how to proceed. I expect they would be available somewhere just as the IRS provides exhaustive instructions.

Unless the court finds your reason to be fraudulent, I expect you could change your name to "Tim Grapefruit", were you so inclined.

You can inquire with the court about whether you would qualify for a waiver of the filing fees.

When standard form petitions are available, the forms are typically self-explanatory.
