Default How to Dispute a Bill After Rejecting Doctor's Services

My question involves collection proceedings in the State of: Missouri

So I have a bill from a doctor of $260.00 for a "consultation", I actually really really hate that doctor, I told him to get out of my hospital room and leave me alone. Now I'm being billed for the consultation. I called the billing office, told them that I didn't have a consultation. The first person I talked to said he would remove it the $260 charge. I got another bill, and I called back. The lady I spoke to this time told me that they have no record of the call and that the previous agent wouldn't have been able to promise that. She even stated that it was the reason he no longer worked for the company anymore. The representative I spoke to told me I was responsible for the charges, then when I wouldn't let her off the phone, she stated she would have to go by the doctors notes and said she would call the doctors office to request the doctors notes for the so called consultation. I feel like they are just giving me the run around and I don't know what to do about the charge. I don't feel I should have to be $260 for nothing.

    Any suggestions are appreciated.

I guess my doctor requested the consult with that other doctor that I hate.

I suggest investigating tomorrow, then reporting back to us with the facts.

Investigating who ordered the consult? Does that even matter? The bottom line is that it wasn't me!

If you don't know the facts or won't share the facts, we can't help. We weren't there, and we have no ability to investigate what happened.

Ok well I was in the hospital and my primary doctor had ordered a consult with the specialist doctor (the one that I told to leave).

Did the consulting Physician examine/take a medical history at all while s/he was in the room? Did she sending a consutation note to your PCP, or include a consultation note in you hospital record?

If the requested consultation notes indicate a service was provided, then you are responsible for the fee.

No examination or medical history was taken. I will have to check to see if there is a consultation note in my medical file.

This was pretty much what happen. Doctor walked into my hospital room, suggested I should some kind of test. (Which I had already done the same test with him 1 year ago, he said I was fine! He is a stupid doctor who doesn't even remember that or even looked at my file, it made me so upset that I told him to leave immediately after.) That whole thing lasted about 30 seconds.

So he did provide a service, albeit one with which you were unsatisfied.

I believe you're on the hook for the consult.
