So today I tried to shoplift some items from Wal-mart and was caught by the manager on the way out. I attempted to put barcode stickers on the items I was paying for so I would pay less than what they were worth. For example, I put a $2.50 barcode sticker on an $8.00 item.
After I scanned the items (3) at the self checkout lane I was approached by the manager who told me the stickers were not supposed to be on the items and pulled them off. She then prompted me to pay for them without the stickers (at full price) and I did so with a credit card. I didn't want to put up a fight about buying them or make up excuses because I was caught and I knew it.
I paid full price for the three items (with my credit card) and left the store. I was completely embarrassed and will not be going back to that Wal-mart.
My question is will I be charged with (attempted) shoplifting even though I paid full price for the items?
I know I was caught and I'm sure the manager will proudly and rightly report her catch. They'll probably use my credit card information to track me down. I don't necessarily want to get away with it, but I'm curious what the consequences might be.
Thanks for the help.
