My question involves a marriage in the state of: Michigan - I married in 2006 and my husband up and left in 2007. I have no idea where he is and I hired a lawyer in 2007 and he said I had to jump through all of these hoops - publication in the town or city I believed my husband to be in at the time, which I did and try contacting his family, which I also did with no helpful results. Needless to say, I have been calling my lawyer every week since our first consultation, with no results as well. He was paid in full at the time of our consultation and since he wasn't answering my phone calls I decided to go straight to the clerk of courts. The file has been closed since 2008, since there were no results I am advised to get a new lawyer. I can not afford that so I have downloaded the forms from a sight online and have many printed off and partially filled out. Then a friend told me I may be using the wrong forms. I just need to know the steps of getting a divorce on my own when I have no clue where to start looking for him and if I do need a publication placed again, how long does it have to stay in the newspaper to be enough for the judge to show I have made an attempt on my part? Please help me to figure out this complicated situation. I have been engaged to a man that I love dearly for three years and it is not fair to him or me that I am still married.
