My question involves criminal law for the state of: Wisconsin
This past weekend I was caught shoplifting from Urban Outfitters in Madison. I was attempting to take a ring and a pair of underwear, and the sensor went of as I walked out of the store. An employ came up to me. she asked me why I thought the sensor went of, and I told her right away that I was trying to take something. She then called a manager over. He asked what I took and I presented the ring. He asked if I wanted to pay for it ( I wasn't thinking so I said no, but I show have said yes). Then they took me to a back room. He asked if I had an ID on me. I told him I didn't, so he said that he would have to call the police to verify my identity. He asked me some questions. Two officers came and asked the same basic questions. I'm 18 and this is my first offense. The officer gave me a municipal court citation for retail theft for $429. Court session is not mandatory. Also, I signed a form saying I wasn't to enter Urban Outfitters, ect. for 3 years. And they will be sending me a Civil Demand Notice.
My question is what does all of this mean? Am I charged with a crime or could I be in the future? Will this go on my record?
It would mean a lot if someone could help answer my questions.
