My question involves labor and employment law for the state of: California
So here goes. Last month I received my yearly evaluation. I was told I was doing well and showing a lot of improvement. A meeting weeks before my boss had discussed things I could do that would be helpful for me. (ie - asking co-workers to answer phones or do other small tasks when I need help). I had been written up, received disciplinary action, the works, over the course of the two years I had been there. A lot of the write-ups I feel were over very miniscule things, some things that don't deserve more than a simple "here's a problem we have, stop that".
I received a phone call yesterday from my boss stating that co-workers were complaining that I had been asking them to answer phones or do other menial tasks. My boss asked me to explain, and I did the best I could over the phone (not well), and she completely contradicted what she had advised me to do in previous meetings, this isn't verbatim but basically "having nurses answer phones would be nice, but it is your job and priority." She felt it needed disciplinary action and the step I was on was termination. She offered a chance for resignation and I chose that instead.
I didn't realize the contradiction until this morning, and since I haven't given a formal written resignation, then I don't think it is official yet. I'm not sure as to what I should do in this situation. I feel I was wrongfully terminated since what she has told me I was being fired for contradicts what I had been advised to do. I'm not really sure what to do, I am only 22 and this is the first "real" job I've been fired from.
