The process for both is quite effective as long as you follow through and also notify the private entities once you record has been sealed or expunged.

Expungements are only available for acquittals, dismissals, and Class C Misdemeanor deferred adjudications. Your record is actually destoyed. Non-Dislosures (sealed records) are available for most other deferred adjudications. It isn't quite as good as an expungement as there are some exceptions that allow some entities (such as hospitals and schools) in additionto state agencies to view your records. However, it is effective for most employers.

Regardless, the order will only be sent to state entites by the court. Although it is effective against all of those private reporting companies, it is up to you to send them a copy of the order and make sure they remove your records.
