Default North Carolina Emancipation Age 18

My question involves juvenile law in the State of: North Carolina

I'm 18 years old and I'm not quite sure how emancipation goes. I go to college and I have absolutely no support from my mother or step-father. And I do not have a job. I receive financial aid but it's not nearly enough and when I go to my mother and ask her for the money, she gets really mad at me and starts a fight about how irresponsible I am. My friend told me that I could get emancipated and stop getting the "support" from my parents. Without them, I would get more financial aid to pay for college because my step-father is in the military so that brings the financial aid down. I've heard that at 18 I could automatically be emancipated but I wasn't sure and I wanted to find out. So am I automatically emancipated or do I have to go through the courts?

You are legally emancipated at 18. That means squat as far as FAFSA goes.
Here is the FAFSA guidance: http://blog.studentloannetwork.com/f...tudent-status/

Doesn't look like anything applies to you.
