Default Husband is a Registered Sex Offender. Will He Be Able to Participate in Child's Life

My question involves criminal law for the state of: CA

Is a registered sex offender allowed to participate in his own child's events such as school plays or sports?

What does his case worker say?

    Was the offense/s (?) against a minor?

I don't even know if he has a case worker. The offense was from 12 years ago when he was a minor, in a different state, and it was against another minor. He's not on Megan's law and is not on probation.

You were okay with his participation in their creation. Absent a change in circumstance, I don't see you have any compelling argument against visitation.

Without facts, we can't tell you what he can and cannot do. In simple terms, a sexually violent sex offender cannot live within one-fourth of a mile of a school, and high-risk paroled sex offenders cannot reside within one-half mile of a school, daycare center, or where children congregate. Beyond that, the devil is in the details.

Is there a level lower than what you've described? We do live right down the street from a high school, less than a fourth mile and he's registered to this address.

You mean, are there sex offenders who aren't classified as sexually violent? Yes. What is your husband's classification, and what are the consequences of that classification? We still have no way of knowing.

Is he currently on probation or parole?

How long has he been living at the current address? Was it his home before he was convicted?

What was the primary offense for which he was convicted and required to register?

Yes, if not on active probation or parole with conditions regarding being around children and the like, he will likely be able to attend plays, sporting events, etc. Depending on the offense, he may not be permitted to be a coach or volunteer with youth sports, a driver for school functions, a coach, or other events that might be prohibited as a result of his crimes and the subsequent registration.
