    Exclamation Can I Be Emancipated

My question involves juvenile law in the State of: In Florida:

I am 17 and living with my mom and her boyfriend. I'll be honest, I'm not perfect. Like any other teenager, I can be a hand full. But for some reason, even when I'm not being a pain in the neck, my mom's boyfriend always seems to find a reason to yell at me or to make my mom think that I was sassing him (even when I wasn't). For example, just today, I asked my mom if I could still go to court with her next monday because it is my brother;s last court date and he is facing serious time. What sister wouldn't want to be there to at least see her brother one last time before he goes to prison? So in the middle of asking her, he interrupted me and told me that there was "no way in hell he was going to let me go see him, and that I could just suffer." So I tried to explain why I wanted to be there, but he just started yelling at me telling me to shut the (beep) up and deal with it. I had been looking forward to seeing him before they sentenced him, and I really didn't think it was fair. To make matters worse, my mom sided with him and told me to just leave it alone because she didn't want to fight with him. But the point is, this is how he is always treating me. I try to keep from arguing, but no matter how hard I try he is always provocing me. Is there any way I can be emancipated to end this constant fighting? And if not, is there any way I can get him to stop treating me like crap?

Sorry for the long explaination... And I know it sounds stupid but it's more serious than it sounds.

    Thank you: )

You have absolutely no chance at becoming emancipated.

First, in Florida the parents are the ones who need to file the petition.

Second, you've stated nothing that would indicate you are capable of supporting yourself fully - and that's a REQUIREMENT.

Finally, emancipation is not meant for teens who are unhappy in their homes. Please read some of the threads here.

There is not a prayer of you being emancipated. You have not posted anything to suggest that you meet even the most minimal of the qualifications, and in Florida your parents are the ones who have to file the petition.

As for your mom's boyfriend, that's for her to handle. Again, you have posted nothing to suggest that this is anything different than all teens go through around your age.

FYI, while I understand why you want to be in court to see your brother, I also understand why your mother and her boyfriend don't want you to be there.
