Default Reckless Driving with No Insurance and Caused Injuries

My question involves an injury that occurred in the state of: New Jersey

I had a car accident 3 weeks ago involved with other party injuries on the highway due to my flat tires. I was sued by reckless driving since I was driving my car knowing that my tires needed to be replaced but I had no money at that time. I was also unaware that my insurance was expired for 2 week at the time when the accident occured. I was told by my lawyer that the other party wants me to pay monthly until I die. I don't what to do and I would like to see if there is anything I can do to improve the situration. I am willing to take my repsonsiblities, but with my student loan and debet, I am not given many choices.

Everybody gets sued in NJ. The state legislature is unfortunately staff with personal injury attorneys and the half-baked no fault in place in pretty much guarantees it.

    Were you actually cited?

You're pretty much screwed, yes you WILL have to pay.
Yes you will not be driving (legally) for a long time.
When you do you can guarantee you will be paying through the nose for insurance (at least they put a cork in the JUA/PAIP system) and paying state surcharges for a while.

Talk to your lawyer about what will happen if you declare bankruptcy before the case reaches a verdict or is settled, or consult a bankruptcy lawyer for that purpose.

Should we infer that you caused a very serious injury to the other driver?
