    Exclamation Extension on Volunteer Hours

My question involves criminal law for the state of: North Carolina

I am currently doing community service to complete the provisions for my deferred prosecution (shoplifting). I have until next Tuesday to get 50 hours but I only have 32. I could get 40 by the end of the weekend but 50 is a little far-fetched considering that I am a college student and exams are nearing. Id there a way to get an extension? I have heard people talk about it but I do not know how the process works. I have been trying to get up with my assigned coordinator for three weeks but she's been in court and won't be available until Monday. At this point any advice would be helpful. Thank so much in advance.

If they do it like we do, you don't have to worry about it, you'll be violated for failure to complete your hours by the designated time.

Actually, it did. You just did not like the answer. The way is to find the person with the ability to keep the judge from hanging you out to dry and in your meekest and most patronizing voice, beg a bit. Even Lindsay found out she was not immune.

It's a deferred disposition. A huge break. You shouldn't have blown off community service to the last minute and, should you choose not to complete it on time, you could end up with a criminal conviction instead of a dismissal. To me, that's not worth the risk.

A B will have a much lesser impact on your future than a criminal record.

Also note worthy is the contention you cannot work 18 hours in 4 days. Wait until you start working in the real world. I frequently put in 75 hour weeks.

Allow me to expound then. You had more than enough time to complete 50 hours of community service. You didn't. You have a case that is active with the court. By the time you go back to court, according to you, you will not have your 50 hours complete. You asked a question: "Is there a way to get an extension?" I gave you an answer, yes, you will be violated for failure to meet the mandate. Maybe the judge will extend it, maybe not. So, in my estimation, I have answered your question.

    Hope that answered your question.
