My question involves criminal law for the state of: texas
I am 26 years old and in 2005 I went through deferred adjudication for 1 year because my lawyer told me it was the best option. The crime was family/dating violence. I was never convicted. Upon completion, I have graduated from UT austin and am currently finishing up my 2nd year of medical school. About 2 months ago, I contact my lawyer because I tried to get a new apartment but my background check came up positive. I figured I would get it non-disclosed and the lawyer that dealt with my case told me he could do it for a fee. I then wanted to see if I was getting a better deal, so I contacted other attorneys as well. All of them said that nothing could be done because you cannot do non-disclosure for family violence cases. At this stage, another lawyer told me that since my first lawyer told me incorrect information, he could help me file a case where I was lied to by that lawyer and hopefully get charges removed. The only problem is, he is asking for A LOT of money. Will this work? Please let me know, as I am already on student loans for medical school so money is very tight.
