My question involves tenant law in the State of: Minnesota
I moved into a two bedroom apartment with my girlfriend and another couple.
My girlfriend and I broke up and things were going fine until she up and left, moving to a different state with two days notice to us.
She didn't let the apartment manager know.
I found someone who would be willing to share my room and the fourth portion of rent but the other couple didn't want the person to move in.
Ever since I suggested it they have begun to harrass me and try and say that theyre forcing me to leave. We signed a 1-yr lease and all of our names are on the lease.
They say that if I want to stay in the apartment then I have to pay $370, which is half the rent, instead of $185, which is one-third of the rent. In addition to that, they have begun to pack up my things and have even told me I have to be out in a week and a half because they have another couple that wants to move in.
Am I correct in thinking that they can't force me to move, and that they have no legal grounds to make me move? What should I do?
