Second Offense MIP

My question involves criminal law for the state of: KY

I always hear rumors about second offense MIPs in KY - mostly that it's a class A misdemeanor with possible jail time. (for people 18-20)
I've been reading and from what I found I think that it's always a violation with no increasing penalties? Am i reading that right?

are violations part of a criminal record or are they more like traffic tickets?

I don't have a hypothetical situation or a real situation. I just have a straight legal question.

First offense MIP is a violation, up to $250 I think.
Second offense MIP - I think people are all talk.

My question is, am I correct when I'm reading those links and understanding that second offense MIP is still a violation, up to $250?

And my second question is also a straight legal question, is a violation like a traffic ticket or does it show up on a criminal record like misdemeanors?

I'm just educating myself on the law....I can make up a story if it will help?
