    Default Possible Charges Over Texting

My question involves criminal law for the states of: California and Kentucky

Is it possible for someone to press charges after they text a wrong number and the recipient goes along with being that person but never initiates contact, makes threats, or attempts to derive any gain from the situation? And would the occurrence over state lines affect this at all?

    Anything's possible.

How about asking a clear question.

Basically somebody texted another person they thought was their friend. The recipient played along with this and agreed to meet up with the sender to discuss the two moving in together. Now the recipient came clean about not actually being the intended recipient and the sender is threatening to press charges. Would this merit criminal charges being brought up somehow? Also, the sender was located in California and the recipient in Kentucky. No request to cease communications was made either.

Press charges for what? They are the one who screwed up.

Was the recipient a minor? Was there overt sexual talk made? Will the chat logs bear out that this was a mistake? Are the two numbers similar enough to indicate a mistake?

I don't see a crime here, but if there is I would doubt it would be serious enough to cause either state from seeking to extradite a person from 3/4 of the way across the country.
