Unhappy Judgment and Garnishment from EDD

My question involves unemployment benefits for the state of: California

I need help with a judgment that EDD just entered against me. I read online that EDD doesn't have to serve you which I was not aware of until today when I got notice that they had entered a judgment and that they would seek Wage Garnishment with my new employer of 2 months. I got a new job 2 months ago and now I am concerned about my credit and my job. My mail is delivered to a UPS store and when I had the mail sent this week I opened the letter today saying they want the full $8,000 now and they will start going after my wages. I had no idea this was going to happen because in one month I could have paid off this whole debt. My new job pays good, and now I am concerned that I could get fired because my wages are garnished and that my current employer or other employers will question me about this judgment. I didnt put down that I was out of work, and I am worried since I was just about to get back on my feet again and I have been knocked down again.

Can I lose my job for my wages being garnished? How much time do I have before EDD files Wage Garnishment?

Can I get this removed from my credit?

I am worried that they will garnish my wages and I will be fired. Also, I am up for 2 other great positions and I am scared what they will think when they see this huge unpaid judgment from EDD.

I emailed an old friend who is a credit attorney to see if he could get it removed but no response yet. Any thoughts or help?? I need help fighting this to protect my job and whats left of my credit.

Default Re: Judgment and Garnishment from EDD

All I know is that it is illegal in California to fire someone for just 1 wage garnishment. If you have more than 1 its a diffrent story. Its more like an annoyance for employers than anything they have to fill out paper work each time you get paid. Just explain to your employer what happend, after he calls you into the office, tell him you plan to pay it off asap. They can not fire you over this so just make sure you dont give them another reason to fire you.
