My question involves criminal law for the state of: Connecticut
I was caught shoplifting. The security had me empty my pockets and they wrote down what I had on me and what was in my wallet including how much cash I had on me, along with the price of the items. They told me they would not get police involved if I cooperated. I gave them all of my information (including my social), and they wrote down necessary information from my driver's license. They then told me I would get a letter (Civil Demand) in the mail for a fine of $250 within 10 business days.
It has now been 3 full weeks and I haven't received any letter. Is this normal/does it usually take this long to receive this mail? I'm worried about not receiving it and then having this situation become more serious than it is. Who would I contact about this?
Also, since they did not get police involved and I believe they told me there would be no court, does this go on a criminal record at all?
Thanks in advance.
