No slams permitted here. This is difficult enough for me. I am close to 60 years old and due to a major life-threatening illness, I became deaf a few years ago. I was just told there is a possibility I can have
a cochlear implant (pending the results of an MRI/CATSCAN - a disease I have may have invaded the cochlea which would make me ineligible). I spent an entire lifetime/career in a field that required hearing
and since I could no longer hear, I dragged my feet but applied and received SSD after consulting with SS about my situation. I thought I could find a job that paid (anything) that doesn't require hearing but there aren't any where I live.
Now, if I actually pass this final test and am eligible for an implant, is SSD then stopped?
It's a two-part answer - 1) I have been out of my field for so long, I am no longer up-to-date or qualified to do what I used to do and there is literally NOTHING here. I keep looking out-of-the box.
2) If I get an implant and am able to hear, does SSD (taking into account #1) stop?
Thanks.
