How Can I Get My Deceased Son's Past Federal Income Tax Returns

My son died almost 1 year ago & I need to get copies of my son's 2009 & 2010 federal income tax returns. I don't think he worked at all in 2010 because of his illness; but I'm not postive. He might of worked part of 2009. He was never married & no children. How do I get these? Thank you for your time.

Why do you need them? You will, most likely, only be able to get them through subpoena.

After I read your reply, I called the IRS. (I was hopeing to get my questioned answered here so I wouldn't have the wait time when I called, But....)
Anyways; I need my deceased son's returns because my atty requested them. (& He never mentioned any subpoena either). The IRS stated I need to fill out a form & *mail* it to them, just to let them know that I am executor & then I call back & they'll fax me the copies I need.

Form 4506 for a full return, Form 4506-T if all you need is a transcript rather than the a copy of the full return.
