    Default 16-17 Looking for Emancipation

My question involves juvenile law in the State of: Florida

I currently am 16 turning 17 years old in two months. My parents have been divorced for around 3 years. I'm living with my father in his one room apartment. My mother gave me up to him about a year ago, and she is living with her new boyfriend that I honestly do not like. I can not stand being with him, we argue way too much and don't get along. He's ignorant and only cares about himself and keeping me with him for retirement benefits. He says he wants to get rid of me and so I will grant him what he wants. I only need 2 more years in highschool but will take adult education if necessary to work during the day. I have a friend who allows me to live with him while paying rent. I can support myself. My mom understands what I'm going through and is willing to sign the petition, and like I said before my father is willing to "get rid of me" so there it is. What else do I need? Who can I talk to? How can I begin the process?

First, BOTH your parents need to sign the petition. THEN, you need to convince a judge that paying rent to a friend who allows you to live with him is the same thing as supporting yourself (hint - it's not). THEN you need to realize that if you have to drop out of school and "take adult education" in order to work enough hours to support yourself (however you do it) your petition will automatically be denied, regardless of what your parents do or do not sign, and take appropriate measures.

BTW, You get retirement based on working and reaching an age. You do not get it by having an ungrateful child, who is willing to sleep her way to a better lifestyle.

Don't forget convincing a judge that the person you want to live with is not a romantic interest.
