Unhappy Consequences of Repeat Offense Shoplifting

My question involves criminal law for the state of: Iowa

I was caught on attempt of shoplifting in August and then again in Oct two different stores. Of this year. My first case has not yet been to court and my second offense is coming up at the end of the month. What should I expect for terms of if I plea Guilty? Is there any chances I will be going to jail prision I attend college and cant afford to miss. I dont want this to mess my life up anymore any advice would be helpful I know that Iowa has since changed there laws and if I get caught again then I will be put in Jail.. But is there anyway to ask the court for community service instead of jail time?

2 charges. You really need to retain a Criminal Defense Attorney.

What was it about the first offense and charge that you didn't take seriously? (I've seen judges ask that type of question.)

    You should get a lawyer.

You may also find your college degree to be just an expensive piece of paper because of that criminal record you will have.

If you are on any kind of scholarship, there is a good chance of losing it.

I have a lawyer already who is taking care of my first case. I have talked to college and they are helping me through what has happened. I took the first one seriously Mrknowitall and not going to expalin on here why the 2nd incident happened. Or came of. Im not on any kind of scholarship so no reason for that to be taken away. Again my main question was will there be jail time or no the college is giving me time off. If jail time is required and has had more serious crimes then mine and still had there students graduate and get jobs so Pandorasbox your wrong it wont be just a peice of paper

Not seeing you taking TWO charges too seriously.

I have hired and fired dozens of people. Two charges within a year for the same crime - and THEFT, no less - would automatically round file your resume/application in any company I have ever worked for.

Jail is a possibility under the law. Doubtful unless the judge decides to make a point to you.

Trust me, kid. We have this thing going called a RECESSION. Employers are in a place to be very picky when hiring. When they have 100 applicants for 1 job, and one of the applicants has been caught stealing twice....you won't be the one hired.

They don't want a pharmacist who may steal drugs and sell them. They don't want a nurse around an unconscious patient. They don't want a heating and cooling technician inside clients homes where a thief might be tempted to relieve the occupants of money or valuables while repairing the A/C unit. Automotive technician - GM, Ford, etc., will still not want you (nor will Aerotek Staffing).

Two times shoplifting...even McDonald's will not hire you. Nor will staffing agencies.

Has anyone else noticed these College Kids can't spell? Or form a proper sentence? Or use punctuation?
