    Talking Distress Letter to Judge

My question involves criminal law for the state of: OHIO

My sons father wrote to me and asked me to write the judge a distress letter so that he could recieve early release. He is really sick (stint in arm, heart conditions) and he is not doin anything in there but dying. He was sentenced to 2 years for violating probation, do you think sending a letter to the judge will result in anything? Im going to write to them anyway because he asked, but how likely are they to consider the letter and shorten his time? Any tips on what to include in the letter? Thanks in advance!!

Default Re: Distress Letter to Judge

Unless there's a scheduled hearing, in which case you can discuss your letter with the defendant's lawyer or submit it to him, the judge is not likely to read an unsolicited letter asking that somebody be released from jail. There won't be a matter open before him, and it raises issues of ex parte communication.
