My question involves collection proceedings in the State of Colorado. I had medical bills that were moved from the hospital over to a billing agency for the hospital. I made arrangments with the billing agency to pay $25.00 per month, (my balance is $3,100.00.) Thereafter, I had more medical bills that were sent over to the billing agency, and I proceeded to pay $25.00 each month. I then just recently received a collection letter in the mail stating my account was turned over to collections. I called the billing agency, and they were puzzled as to why the account was turned over as they had always gotten my payments each month. Then after further research they stated that the payment arrangments were no longer acceptable, and they claim to have sent me one letter and made one attempt to call me, with no success. I didn't receive any letter from them, nor did I receive a phone call. They said they only had to make two attempts to contact me to try and arrange a bigger payment arrangment, but since the contact wasn't made they turned me into collections. Is there anyway to fight this matter? I am paying them what I can, and can up the payment to $50.00 per month, which the collection agecy was able to do as a "hardship" payment for three months, then they would have to re-evaluate and are wanting $350 per month. Is there anything I can do?! HELP! Thank you in advance for any advice or suggestions, I look forward to the responses.
