My question involves collection proceedings in the State of: Nevada Nevada. I'm power of attorney for my 85 year old mother who suffers from alzheimer's and dementia. I signed a contract to place her in a assisted living facility, (Emeritus of Las Vegas) on Russel Road in Las Vegas, NV. that had a 30 day notice clause in it. After about 5 months in this facility they had a norovirus infection that is documented with the health department. They were on lock down for 3 or 4 months and the residents were confined to their rooms and visitors were advised not to visit.

My mother became so depressed and according to the staff at Emeritus she told them that she wanted to die and allegedly took a cell phone charger cord and put it around her neck. They called 911 and had her sent to the hospital and never notified me. I found out from the hospital staff. Mom spent 17 days in a psychiatric hospital where she was treated for depression and diarrhea. When mom was released I moved her to another assisted living facility. She was sent by the staff, to the hospital around the 15th of the month and at the end of the same month I cleaned out her room so they could re-rent it.

I received a bill for the next month and sent the manager a letter and he told me they would just write it off. I went on my way and needless to say, 5 months later the collection agency calls me to collect $2000. No one at Emeritus will answer my calls or emails so I only have the collection agency to deal with. So I guess my question is...am I on the hook for the next months rent as the power of attorney.
