Question Which Date to Use to Get SSI Backpay

what's the differents between the disable date-vs- the file date from ssi backpay? can I get backpay for the disable date? If so, how? If not, why have the disable date on the appeal approval decision letter.

SSI pays from application date if onset of disability is on or before application date. SSI does not pay from the date disability began. SSI is needs based. You cannot get public assistance for a period before you asked for it.

Onset date is provided because sometimes SSI will pick a date AFTER your application date.
