My question involves an eviction in the state of: Pennsylvania.
I am living in an apartment with two other people, one male and one female (I am also female). The three of us were strangers before moving in: we found each other and the apartment through craigslist. Recently, my female roommate has confided in me that she is frightened by the male roommate. She told me that he has never helped clean the common areas of the apartment and has been taking her food items, and when she has addressed these issues, he has gotten extremely angry with her and threatened her.
I am rarely home, so I have not had any problems with him, but I can tell how uncomfortable my roommate is. All three of us signed the lease (which ends in the spring), and he pays his portion of the rent on time and has not broken the lease in any other way. As far as I know, he has not been physically violent. According to Pennsylvania law, you can only get a restraining order against someone who is in your family or someone you have been in a sexual relationship with, and I'd be surprised if refusing to do housework and threatening your roommates was enough grounds for eviction. Still, I don't want to see the situation escalate.
What options do I (or more importantly, my female roommate) have here?
