Default Non-Account Holder Utility Liability or Lack Thereof

My question involves landlord-tenant law in the State of: Virginia

My name is not on any utility bill (gas / electric / water / cable). I have never agreed to payment via any digital medium, nor have I given payment in any form at any time since I moved into this unit. I am still living in the unit and will continue to do so until the rental lease expires. Can I be held legally accountable for splitting utilities on accounts of which I neither agreed to split and nor is my name on any utility accounts. Utilities are handled straight to the utility companies (no landlord go-between).

Recheck your lease to include the fine print.

If you have agreed with your landlord that, even though the utilities are in his name, you are responsible for their payment and are to pay the bills directly to the utility companies, then that's what you agreed to do.

So tell us - what did you agree to do?

The utilities are in the name of my roommate. My name is not on any of her utility accounts. I did not agree to pay anything towards the utility bills, but she has recently stated that I owe her half. I made no agreements for payment toward any utilities. She is also trying to say that because I am not paying towards the utilities, that she will attempt to prevent my ability to use them (such as the Washer and Dryer)
