Default The Helicopter School Filled Out My Loan Applications and Changed My Income

My question involves collection proceedings in the State of: arizona
my question is if i am responsible for the 160,000 that i now owe. the school filled out the first loan application, with my income at 30,000/yr, for a small loan of 20,000. than added that 20,000 onto the next loan application for a higher loan, totalling 50,000 a year income. all the while saying, "oh ya, just sign here and you will be a helicopter pilot". after the first loan, i had to quit my job to attend the school fulltime anyway. so at the time of the second loan i was jobless. im not sure also why a bank like sally mae wouldnt check my working status to see if i could afford loans that high. i am a man of honor. when i say i will do something, or pay someone back, i do. but i must admit, i was "blind" when i signed the loan applications. didnt even think about them changing my income. i guess i just wasnt thinking about anything except flying. but there is no way i should have been approved for those loans. please help me. i am now in collections. just got laid off from work, and having a hard time putting food in my belly.

If you can't be bothered to review the forms before you sign them and insure that they are correct, why should someone else be responsible for confirming that the information YOU SIGNED is correct?

well sir, yes i should have reviewed the forms..but i didnt. and we arent just talking about anybody confirming. we are talking about a BANK who doesnt care what i say because the government backs the loans.. either way they are getting paid by me, you, your wife/husband, parents. i would think that just maybe they should have to check to see if the information is correct, seeing as i cant pay the loan now so its just gonna be you, your wife/husband, parents paying. and for your little attitude, thanks. i was on here to find help with a question, not to hear your smart comment about me being bothered. i was young and dumb. guess you never were huh. so thanks for nothing. great site.

actually when i was there silver state claimed bankruptcy. everyone who was attending at the time was nervous about that happening to us. i guess they knew more than me. but thanks for bringing up silver state cause from what i was reading on it, it sounds very similar to universal helicopters and what they did to us. there are still lawsuits going on by the students if i read it correct.

Oh, for the love of butt.

No, the bank is not at fault here. You signed your name to binding contracts without looking at them. Who is to be responsible for what you agree to if not you?

If the bank sues you, what do you think will happen in court?

I'll tell you what will happen in court. The judge will ask you "Did you read what you were signing?" When you reply "No", s/he will ask you why you didn't read the contracts whose terms you were agreeing to. When you protest that the bank was responsible for checking, you will be a very, very lucky person indeed if the worst thing that the judge says to you in open court is "That was stupid." There's a judge here in my city that tells people "So you've subjected yourself to the dumbass penalty."

Yes, you are responsible for payment of these loans. You signed the contracts. They are binding. You can try to claim scam, but I don't expect you'll get very far with that claim.

Well other than the fact that the job opportunities they're alluding to do NOT exist these guys aren't quite as bad as Silver State.
These guys have been around forever primarily sucking up GI Bill money. The fact that they've managed to get some finance company to buy into the thing is just making it riskier for the lender and student alike.

$88,000 will qualify you to teach other suckers like yourself and little else. The real helicopter jobs require turbine experience and training. None of which you're getting.
Nobody much flies R22's other than some well off private individuals who are flying themselves and flight schools.

ya, no crap. when i started there, they were promising "oh when you finish, we will hire you on as a instructor, than when you reach 1000 hours we have a oil rig company that will take you". than when i had 2 weeks till my test at the factory for the instructor license, they recommended i take time out due to my money was running out. after two weeks, they said they couldnt get me to test right away, and didnt know when they could..a month later my money was gone. saying i needed to get another 20,000 loan. i was all tapped out by that time. funny, out of all the people i saw finish only one got hired on, and only one instructor got taken to a rig. you said it right...i was a sucker.. i trusted they were filling out my loan paperwork honestly, and trusted them to get me a better life. but if you ask me, they are JUST as bad as silver state.
thank you for your professionalism (unlike the other two replies) and opinions.
