Depends on how much the check was for (and potentially other circumstances like if you've got priors and if there was other fraud going on). If it was less than $20 it's just a 500 fine. Penalties range up to $10,000 and 99 years in jail for larger checks.
I was charged with theft my check. I paid a little back. But didn't take the class. This was in december 2010. Do u think I will just go to court? The total is 2000 dollars. They were my checks.
You'll go to court, you could get jail. If they aggregate these checks together it's a state jail felony.
Even at a class B mis (more than $20), you're risking jail time.
However, if you sounds like you were already under some deferred prosecution. You screwed up. That annoys judges. YOu need a lawyer.
