My question involves criminal law for the state of: Virginia.
I have been a victim of domestic abuse my entire life, recently there was a scene at my household where two family members ganged up on me- choking and kicking me. I could not breathe which prompted me to call 911. Even though I was hurt and having trouble breathing I refused ambulance assistance, but they had officers come to the scene. When officers arrived they spoke very little to me- I was still having a lot of trouble breathing as they could tell.
One of my other family members had a scratch on their wrist- which they claimed came from me (if it did come from me it was in defense) I was arrested because my two family members claimed I had been the one who had attacked them.
I did have bruises which developed hours later.
I was arrested based on lies, I had other family members who were witness who were never questioned at the scene. I am not sure how to prove my innocence- I did take photographs of my bruises the day later, I am trying to get a copy of the 911 call where my family members are still threatening me in the background.
I have never had something like this happen and am not sure which way to turn, any advice would be helpful, I can provide additional details.
