    Default +3 Toll Lane Violation

My question involves a traffic ticket from the state of: CA

Driving on the 91 Express Lane with the FastTrak item visible on the driver side. I drove right thru the +3 Lane. Therefore the cop pulled me over on the left side of the traffic. He said I was pulled over for "Failure to Obey Traffic Sign- +3 Lane.
This is my first ticket violation.
I told the officer that I thought it meant for motorists to drive an extra +3 lane but he then told me it really meant for +3 people in a motor vehicle.
Other than that my parents never told me about the rules. Could it be that they are at fault for not telling me?

I want to see if there is a way to contest it. I've been searching the internet to get information on all the violations and policies online but I haven't found anything relating to +3 Lane appealing.

I do not want the points to be on my record so is there a chance if I take traffic school, it will not appear on my record as well as raising my insurance rate?

Do I still have to pay the fine?

No, you're at fault for not learning the traffic rules before getting on the road. You were cited for driving in a carpool/HOV (High Occupancy Vehicle) lane. Bust out yourDriver Handbook and commence to studying again.

You can ask if this is an option. It might not be.

Do I still have to pay the fine?
Yep, even if they give you traffic school.

Assuming you were cited for code section 21655.5(b), then you don't have to worry about the points and you don't have to take traffic school because that violation carries ZERO points?

    Feeling better now?

Well, unless you can show that the officer was wrong about you driving in the HOV lanes then yes, you'll have to pay the fine, and not to make you feel worse so quickly but (again, if you were cited for VC 21655.5(b)) its a WHOPPER... You're looking at $480...
