My question involves a theft that occurred in the state of: Massachusetts
A guest of mine called recently to ask about a charge on their Credit Card. The guest remarked that they had left a cash tip, but their statement declared that a $2 tip had been added. I looked into the slips, and saw that they were, in fact, charged a tip that was not approved. The guest had split the check 4 ways, with three other friends, and they had all left a $2 on each bill, and it could have been an oversight.
I did an audit on that employee and researched each credit card slip that they processed, and found a large number of 'adjusted' tips. I will be terminating this employee within the next 24 hours (when they return to work). I am also going to present a final sum that they've 'adjusted' to return to my guests; despite the huge embarassment to myself and my business, I believe in doing things honestly.
I have their final sum, totalling just below $300, and would like to be able to present them with their soon to be legal troubles; fines, penalties, etc. One; to scare them because I'd (very mature I know) like to see them sweat for betraying my trust; and Two: so that, as I search through all of my staff members slips, any of them considering stealing as well will certainly think twice.
Thank you in advance.
