    Default Liability for Dental Bills

hello everyone newbie here.great forum by the way.well here is my problem.i was working at a place where i had dental insurance for me and my wife.got a two week notice on a friday that i was getting laid off and my wife had a dentist appointment the following tuesday.she went to her appointment as scheduled they checked the insurance that day and everything seemed fine.months later we find out because of a collection agency contacting us that the dentist had not placed the claim tell friday the week of my wifes appointment and it had come back to them saying policey terminated.does not my former employer have to give me 30 days to find another insurance?i have not contacted them yet wanted to see what some of you thought about my perdicament.i now have incured bad credit because of my wifes braces and my crooked former employer.oh just in case my employer says something like "sue me" which i don't have the means to do right now,is there not a law in texas on spousal debt called non-elective and elective medical care this prosedure falling under the catagory of elective or non life threatning and thus i am not liable for her debt in this matter?i dont know maybe i'm delusional and dont have a clue but any help would be most appreciated.best regards,al.oh and i did not sign any papers stating i would pay for the braces.my wife did all of this without my knowledge.

If the service was performed while the policy was still in effect, you should have coverage for the service even if the bill was submitted at a later date. You should consider contacting the insurer to try to get them to honor the bill.
