My question involves collection proceedings in the State of: California
My parents went through a divorce in 2006/2007. My father hired a lawyer and paid his bill in April 2007, after everything was said and done.
He recently got a letter stating that the firm was owed $2,400 for services rendered in 2008 (which were never requested nor authorized) claiming review of some documents, phone calls, and emails/letters which were never received.
From my research I found CA civil procedure 337 which states that a written contract has a 4 year limit for debt.
The letter from the lawyer states that my father's final payment was made in April 2007. Since the lawyer's letter (and first bill ever received) for this mysterious debt was dated July 27, 2011, is this lawyer past the statute of limitation to claim the debt?
Any other advice in this situation?
