    Default Filing for Citizenship

I have been a Green Card Holder for 5 years (Since 2006) and I was planning on filing for citizenship soon. I filed for Bankruptcy last year after I lost my job and my case was discharged etc... I was receiving unemployment benefits and I have an overpayment which I have to pay back to the Dept of Labor but it will probably take me a couple of years to pay back (I've already set up an installment payment plan with them).

So the question is: Does the bankruptcy and the overpayment of Unemployment benefits affect my status or filing for citizenship?

    Thank you in advance.

    Generally speaking, no.

The only time this is an issue is if your debts were the result of "unsavory" activity, such as gambling. Elsewise, it won't even raise an eyebrow.
