The school where I teach uses a network software program called PowerSchool. We pull up all of our class rosters and take attendance electronically. I am teaching a Statistics course and would like to generate a master list of all students in our school by homeroom and distribute it to my students for surveying purposes. Would accessing all lists of teachers' homeroom students from this program and retyping them into a spreadsheet constitute copyright infringement? It seems these rosters could be considered "facts," although there may be some originality on the part of the software program if it divided up the students by alphabetizing or by random arrangement.
