    Default Ex Husband Burned Papers

21 years ago I came to the US with my then husband who is a US citizen . As soon as we got here(I am German ) he became abusive and I still stayed with him 20 years . When I left he would not give me my Green card and my Social Security card . I found out later that he burned them. I know that I had a permanent resident card, but I dont know i it was for only 10 years. Im now remarried and want to get my green card but im worried that I am illegal in this country. I have the number of my green card. Can any one give me some advise please . Thank you very much

Depending on when you received your green card, you may be out of status. But try not to fret too much. The first thing you need to do is get your documents replaced, starting with your green card. File form I-90, and consult with an immigration attorney.
