Default Working on an F Visa

Was on F-1 visa and worked for an outside company, but did all of my business on campus. Found out this did not count as on campus employment after employment ended (~1 week, commision only). Explained my visa status before getting hired and was hired anyways. Someone in the company offered to pay 80% of earnings as a gift, or 100% but report the income. If I file taxes on it, will it likely be okay? (My total income is under the deductible so I wouldn't pay taxes on it anyways). I have graduated on gone back to my home country and am no longer on F-1 status, though I may want to apply to graduate school in the US in the next couple of years. Any advice?

If the company reported your wages to the IRS, there's a record whether or not you file a tax return.

I know that by reporting the income to the IRS, the IRS now has that report. Let me rephrase: I am wondering what the repercussions would be (minus tax evasion or whatever since I WILL fill taxes on it). Considering I thought it was on campus (legal), explained to the company before they hired me (they could have checked to make sure it was legal), and that I am filling taxes (goes along with the I thought it was legal) will this affect me in the long run let's say if applying for another F-1, or will they take into consideration what is mentioned above (i.e. I did not know, and filling taxes). Basically, it would be nice to know whether to take the 80% and run or fight for 100%. (It is about a $550 difference)

Also, does anyone know what the repercussions to the company would be for hiring someone illegally (because if they report it then aren't they in trouble?) Just curious.
