Default Changing Last Name for Myself and My Family

    Hello,

I have a question that I hope someone can answer for me.

I live in Calif. and I want to change my last name along with my whole family (wife and 2 kids).

Is this allowed in California and what kind of process can I expect?

Is there a good link to go to for this information because I haven't been able to find a good one yet.

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you!

It shouldn't be particularly difficult. You can download the forms here.

    Thanks for the link.

There is a lot of forms (not to my surprise) to change the name of my whole family.

If and when I do change my name what can I expect about letting people know (i.e. my work, gas, electric, bank, etc...), is there a link that can help to form a checklist of who needs to know of this?

Also, when I do change my name, what happens to my old name? Is it still out there for people to look up or what?

    Thanks

You may be able to find a site which has suggestions for what a new bride should do to effect her name change. But you will have to take care to make sure that you notify everybody who needs to know.

What records are you concerned about? There will be many records which reflect your prior name, or both names.

    Thanks,

When I mean my old name, I was wondering if it will confuse people when for example I apply for a new loan, a new job, etc... will it cause confusion?

Also, I guesss I'll have to make a check list of authorities to call to notify the new name change.

Also, will this affect my children who are in school still? How will this work with them (i.e. school records, report cards, etc...)

    Thanks
