My question involves an eviction in the state of: South Carolina
Tonight, of August 3rd, I came home to a completely empty apartment after being out of town for a couple of weeks. It was brought to my attention by my roommate that the owners had ALL of my possessions removed from the property and disposed of during the morning of August 1st. The lease had apparently ended on July 31 and, admittedly, I had just forgotten since I did not move in until the 14th of August last year. However, the problem is that I was not notified in any way whatsoever before they jumped on my belongings, like vultures, and took every last thing.
So, my question is, even though I wasn't moved out the day after the lease ended, shouldn't there be SOME effort of notification before just disposing of everything you own? I received no e-mail or phone call, and as far as I'm aware, there was not even any written notice delivered directly to the apartment. This just seems too unethical to be legal, but I don't thoroughly understand real estate law and decided to come seek a more educated opinion. Please, the things taken from me were of both extreme monetary and personal value, and if there is ANY way I can fight to get things back or acquire some sort of compensation, I'd be incredibly grateful for whatever advice I can get. And if any additional information is required, let me know and I'll do my best to provide it.
Thanks.
