My question involves name change laws in the State of: New York
I had a son out of wedlock who's father was never in his life, but signed a declaration of paternity at birth. My son has his biological father's last name and he is on his birth certificate. When he was 2 years old I married and my husband has been his father ever since. We tried to change his name, but the process was very complicated so we left in alone. My son is now 18 and we have legally changed his name to my husband's last name, however his biological father's name is still on his birth certificate. Is there any way that an adult can remove a biological parent's name from their birth certificate?
