    Default Shoplifting First Time Offender

My question involves criminal law for the state of: NEW YORK CITY

Hi , i need your help!!!
I'm from Argentina, and i am visiting New York City.
But unfortunately I was caught by shopplifting in a large clothing store. I was about two hours in a store choosing clothes and putting them into the bag that the store offers to its customers put the items you want to buy while traveling through the store. However, I kept selecting many other clothes which do not fit in the store bag, so I put them inside a huge staff bag I was carrying. today, I know I made a mistake, I should not have put the clothes in my bag, but I had no intention of stealing them, was choosing to try, even more clothes, to bring again to dressing room, and then would go through the sale man with the bag and pay for all items. I was very naive. The security guard that was watching me, approached me, took me to a private room, shopplifting accused me of, I tried to explain that did not want to steal those clothes, I did it wrong for putting into my huge bag, but I did not know, was not with malice , by the way I was not trying to leave the store when I was approached, but was still within the store looking at other clothes, but to no avail, and I was Arrested.
I know that he recorded the moment I put the clothes into the bag, and I am very worried about what might happen to me. I think the total would be approximately $ 600.00. It is my first time ofense.
My court date will be in a few days and I will send a representative in my place to ask for the case be dismissed. What will probably happen to me? please help me, direct me.
    thankyou

Default Re: Shopplifting First Time Ofender ,

If you feel you are totally innocent, time to get a lawyer. We can't represent you here. I assume you are wealthy enough to be disqualified for a public defender.

The store gave you a bag expecting people to need a bag and you exceeded the limit of that bag and used your own instead of asking for another bag but never attempted to approach the store exit. I'm not too sure if concealment = shoplifting; but I assume that's what the store is going on.

I know other countries have other customs to shopping; in the UK people bring their own bags to grocery shop and putting items in those bags is accepted.

I have to count my blessing my wardrobe is a simple one from Walmart.
