My question involves criminal law for the state of: NY
I was caught shoplifting approximately 5 1/2 months ago. My information was taken, but I was not arrested or banned from the store. This is the first and only offense of my life. I never had a court date or went to trial, but was given the opportunity to participate in a diversion program. I have served all my community hours and paid my fees, and will successfully complete the program September 18th.
This occurred in Michigan. I am now back home in New York applying for jobs, and am wondering if anything will show up on a background check. As I was never arrested, and never told to appear in court, is the fact that the charges were brought recorded in any public records? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. This whole thing has been very scary, and I just want to have as good an understanding of it all as I can.![]()
