My question involves real estate located in the State of: Kentucky
I have inherited property that was deeded to my dad. My grandfather had a life estate on the property. Dad passed away a few years ago; my grandfather passed away last year. the deed reads that the first party (my grandfather) retains a life interest and retains the exclusive possession of the property during his lifetime. A survey was ordered by my grandfather's power of attorney at the time. While the survey was being done, my grandfather revoked the power of attorney and assigned it to a different person. I just found out that a lien had been filed for the survey bill.
My question is are the heirs now responsible for any unpaid bills? According to the will, the estate was to pay for any outstanding debts but the executor has not paid any of these bills. The heirs would like to sell the property but think that the estate should have to pay the outstanding debts. There was money coming in to my grandfather before he died but have no idea where it went.
