My question involves employment and labor law for the state of: Maryland

I work as a bartender in a bar in which the managers perform managerial duties while "simultaneously" bartending. The managers will help out the bartenders throughout the night, as they see fit, if it were to get busy. Every night, regardless of amount of actual bartending done by the managers, we must tip them out 20% of our total tips.

I feel like this is not legal, because they are getting paid salary, but want to be sure before moving forward. In my opinion, it is rare that the managers actual bartend 20% of the time, therefore making the 20% tipout ludicrous. Other bartenders are in agreement that not only is it not fair, it is probably not legal.

Thanks for your help!!!
