I have an upcoming trial for 2 class 5 felonies in Richmond, Virginia and would like some input as to what I'm up against.. I have been appointed a public defender, but have not spoke with him as of yet. I am formally being charged with possesion of a controlled substance and other forgery (employ as true).
A couple months ago I walked into a pharmacy with a fake prescription and had it filled. The pharmacy filled the script and had me pay for it before the police came in to arrest me. I wrote a statement for the officer saying that I wrote (forged) it, admitting to doing everything myself. Having done so the officer went before the magistrate for me and my bail was set very low in return. I would assume that the admission would throw any chance of 1 of the charges being dropped out the window?
I have a bit of a criminal history, but nothing too extensive. I've done a lot of running around in my life and have pending charges in other states (Florida & Illinois). They are, however unfortunately drug charges that are pending. Possesion of marijuana in IL and DWI & violation of probation in FL. These charges are obviously not extraditable (or I'd be writing about something completely different =)). The only other thing on my record here in VA is a petit larceny.
Does anyone have any idea what I should be expecting?? I'm completely on edge about the whole thing, thinking because of the prior drug offenses that I will have to do drug court, or the maximum year for each charge =(
