My question involves criminal law for the state of: Pennsylvania
2 years ago when I was in college in PA, I received a summary citation for Disorderly conduct. I pleaded not guilty because I couldn't afford a lawyer and honestly wasn't aware of my options since the university police told me it wouldn't appear on any background checks and was the equivalent to a traffic ticket. I paid the fine and thought that was it. Here I am 2 years later and I applied for an apartment and was rejected because of my background check. I work full-time, graduated college, and will be applying for my CPA license this fall. I am a resident of NJ.
I want to apply for a pardon from PA to try to get this expunged off my record. However, when I did a record check at https://epatch.state.pa.us/RecordCheckHome.jsp, as part of the pardon application, and searched myself, it is saying no record. 2 questions:
1. The PA police record search is saying no record. Does this mean that although I received a citation in PA, it falls under my NJ record since this is where I live?
2. How will this affect my application for a CPA license? The application ask to disclose any misdemeanors/felonies, and also lists other things such as disorderly persons charge.
Please help! I'm so stressed this citation from college is following me and preventing me from getting an apartment and may affect my CPA application.
