My question involves paternity law for the State of: Wisconsin
I have a very complicated issue and I would appreciate any advice possible. I was born in Austria but I have US citizenship. My parents were refugees and not married at the time I was born. My Austrian birth certificate listed my mom's ex-husband as my father because at the time my mom was not yet divorced. A couple of years after I was born we moved to the US and became citizens. My biological father (who was not listed on my birth certificate) changed my last name to match his but nothing was done about the paternity. While growing up in the US all documents list my biological father as my father because I didn't know anything else...even my marriage certificate. My problem now is that my documents do not match. I recently had a DNA test done with my biological father so that I at least have something showing that he is in fact my father. Is there a legal document that the court will issue stating paternity? So I have a legal document stating paternity. I really appreciate any advice and thoughts. Do I need to get an attorney involved? Thank you!
