Possession and Paraphernalia in Florida

My question involves criminal law for the state of: FL

I was charged with possession and paraphernalia. Because they were found in my friends purse, I (stupidly) decided to write a statement saying that they were mine.

This is my first drug charge, and my first charge of any kind in FL. I am wondering what kind of fines/punishments I am looking at.

I read that license suspension is automatic which is a big problem for me. I have to go to school and it will be HARD to get the last of my degree requirements online.

I guess my question is, what options are available? I have read a bit on diversion programs. Can anyone tell me a bit more about this?

I would also like to know people's opinion on whether I should hire a lawyer. Back in my home town in Texas they don't make such a big deal about it and a lawyer is unnecessary.
